Dirt bath

Ok, girls, the chicken scratching has gone too far!  Don't you know I plant flowers in there?  Where's the mum that was living in that pail?  You ate it didn't you?

Free ranging felons will be confined to the coop!

  1. My daughter worked very hard to put in two rows of strawberries. Our free range pet chickens totally destroyed them. I can't believe how destructive they can be.

  2. I'm just redoing a large garden that the chickens took over last year, they keep watching me thinking the fresh topsoil would make a nice dust bath..

  4. Yep...been there done that! Who'd have thought such cute feathery critters could be so destructive. It doesn't take them long to destroy a flower bed or a vegetable garden. We used to free range when we first moved to the country but now they're in the old barnyard where there is nothing to destroy. They're still free range...they just don't have as much 'range' to hunt and peck around in. I hope you're not getting the wind we're getting up here in our part of Kansas...and tomorrow is to be even worse. Enjoy the last of your week and your weekend!

  11. So cute! My chickens have had bad behavior toward each other in the coop/pen lately.. I think they're bored. However, I'm not sure that I want to deal with the uprooted plants and hawk scares of free-ranging. It's such a tricky balance! Who knew chickens could be so complicated? ;) -Tammy

  13. I think gardening with "free ranging felons" would have to be even more of a challenge than gardening in Oklahoma already is. I love that shot.

  14. Ah, but nothing beats a good dust bath.... that is, if you're a chicken.
