Flowers in feed buckets

chicken in a bucket

You may have seen my galvanized feed bucket flower pots before.  They are scattered around the farmhouse outside.  I love picking just the right flowers for each bucket.

A few weeks ago, I hung one of our red feed buckets on the goat fence and left it there.  Later I looked out the window and realized that those would look really cute filled with flowers.

Since we have some new animal feeders on the farm (thanks to my hubby), I decided to repurpose these.  I had to by a few more though.

11 in all and all in red.
Hanging on the fences filled with pink and white zinnias and sweet smelling alyssum.

I think they will be lovely when they fill out and cascade over the sides.

We drilled small holes in the bottom for drainage and picked flowers that were non toxic to the farm animals just to be safe.

I didn't bother to take the stickers off.  They just add to the farm theme, I think.

pink watering can worth a million with million bells in pink

This year, I got rid of the regular flower pots.  All of our flowers are in feed buckets and why shouldn't they be?  Afterall, this is a farm and just about everything on it requires feeding and watering.

  7. Oh, my, you are so clever and artistic. What a fabulous idea! I love the hanging feed buckets!
Our house came with a planter on one exterior wall. I can't wait to plant it. Maybe this week.... although we still usually have to wait until June to plant our gardens.

  11. Looks cool! I just keep worrying what animal might get into them. You must be confident they will be out of reach. I like that you left the stickers on.

  14. We spent lots of time picking flowers that would not poison any of the animals and be good in direct sun. This was quite a task. Did you know most flowers are toxic? The zinnias & alyssum should be fine. The buckets are also hanging up on the five foot fence so the goats won't be able to get to them. Cowboy was a little confused when we fed him yesterday. He couldn't figure out who put flowers in his feed bucket! He stuck his nose in the dirt but didn't try to munch them.

  19. Mama's Touch,
They do have round ones. My husband reminded me that they were water buckets. You can find "8 qt. hook over feed pails" for $5.95 at valleyvet.com. They come in red, green, and blue.
