Jammin'

Yesterday was the first "Jam session" of the year.  That means strawberries!

But not from these sad looking plants.  I think I put too much hay on top of them over the winter.  And come to think of it, I probably shouldn't have used hay at all.  Just look at all that grass!

I just bought strawberries ~ 2 lbs.
added 4 lbs. of sugar and a box of Sure-Jell.
and there you go ~ 9 wonderful half pints of jam.

I always hope there is a little too much to put in a jar so I can eat it warm right out of a bowl.

I love jammin'.

  2. Have you ever tried using Pamona's Universal Pectin? It's all I use and it uses WAAAAAAAAAAAY less sugar and tastes amazing! I'll never use the 'other stuff' again.

  5. Karen,
I used the cooked jam recipe in the Sure-Jell box. It's pretty easy. And yes, I would agree that strawberries are a pain in the butt. They are just so yummy!
    From the Country farm,
I will have to look for the Pamona's. Always fun to try something new.

  10. I agree with From the Country Farm about the sugar. In days past I would have thought nothing of using that much sugar but now that my hips and waist have declared a "time out" I would love to have alternatives to the over the top amount of sugar used. I will have to try her recommendation.
