Bicycle basket

You know my boys have been working on their newly leased property behind us and part of this was cleaning up piles of junk that might harm their cattle.  Well, while cleaning up they found something that they knew I would like.  A couple of old bicycles.  They turned out to be too rusty and dented to keep as farmhouse garden decor but the bike basket was fabulous.

After prying it off the bicycle with a little help from WD-40 and wire cutters, I washed it thoroughly and brought it in the house.

Immediately I began looking for the perfect spot for my new treasure.  I settled on it becoming a tea towel holder by the kitchen sink.  It is hanging on the IKEA utensil rack under the cabinet.  The handlebar hooks that say "Ward" on them are handy for hanging but can swing down to tuck out of the way too.

Being a little chippy and a little rusty simply makes it great!
I am still wondering what other uses it could have.
So...
What would you do with a old bicycle basket?

  1. How about giving it to me, Ha-Ha!! I've been souring shops for one like that. I want it so I can take my puppy dog with me on bike rides. All the new baskets as deep and narrow. I will continue my search but I love your idea with the tea towels!

  3. It is a perfect tea towel holder.
    Hmmm, other ideas:
    1. line it with moss and make it into a planter (since I know you love plants and unique planters!)
    2. put it near the door to hold mail, gloves or hats
    3. put it near the tub to hold sponges, loofahs, soap
    4. give it to me?!

  6. Oh I LOVE this so much! What a great find and creative idea for it! The only other use I can think of would be to fill it with dark chocolate and carry it around with you all day :)

  7. Love it! So many good ideas have been given, my favorite is the dark chocolate.

You could use it next to a bed or a couch to hold books or magazines. I would probably use it to store my dogs' toys. So many possiblities.

  16. Kim,

It's fab, fab, fab!! And I love the colours of the fabric in it. Red is my thang for the kitchen!! It warms it up so beautifully, doesn't it - and matches the outside of your house too!!

Thank you so much for linking up to Kitchen Favourites!

  19. I am popping over from Sarah's Kitchen Favourites party to see your kitchen. Such a creative way to display your pretty tea towels.

You can see my kitchen in my Chicago Vintage apartment. Can you stay for tea?
