Bringing home the bacon and the beef

Today we picked up our meat from the processor.  Yes, the fruits of our labor will finally be on our plates. We kept the largest pig whose hanging weight was a whopping 287 lbs.  The steer we split with my in-laws and our share was 281 lbs hanging.  Every bit of that was wrapped in freezer paper to our specifications and ready to bring home today.

This was our share~
9 bags the size of feed sacks.

Our 17 cubic foot freezer was completely empty.
It's full now!

Tonight for dinner:
grilled ham steaks
skillet green beans & new potatoes
pickled beets
and homemade whole wheat bread

Every bit of it was grown or made right here on our farm.
That's a first and it sure felt good.

  8. O Kim, that is absolutely wonderful. Last year, we sat down one evening to a very plain meal of mackerel, which had just been caught off our rocks here, and new potatoes, which had just been lifted. I felt like a king sitting to a banquet! Oftentimes over the past year, we've had home-grown lamb and all our own veg. There really is no feeling like it. Giving thanks takes on a different feeling too.... I really feel these meals are a 'gift straight from our Father'. Of course, every meal is, and that's the way I ought to look at every meal....

Blessings to you at every single meal in that freezer! Wonderful x

  14. I think this is what we strive for...why we don't go for the ratrace, and just need to step back. If you are a ratrace person, more power to you and enjoy the ride, but I'm opting for simplicity and know a bit more about where it's coming from.

So what do you think of that?
