Extra, Extra!
Okay, a little background to the amazing question we were asked at the dinner table. From time to time we watch comedian Tim Hawkins (Christian, clean, completely funny!). He was doing a skit about iphones for his teenagers and more or less told them he'd give them a dime for a pay phone.
Later, we were eating dinner when our youngest son asked...
"What's a pay phone?"
Seriously?! What else does he not know about?
Typewriters? Records? Pop bottle openers?
Things have changed since we were kids!
Oh I hear you! My kids and I were just discussing things like this the other day as well and was shocked about that they were not familiar with. We too watch Tim occasionally, he's great and has clean jokes!

Haha! It's only when you hear your kids saying things like that that you realise how 'old' we are! (At least, *they* think we are!)

They sure have..my eldest was askance when I said that overseas telephone calls used to be so expensive that even in dire circumstances people only used to call for a few minutes. He was wondering why his grandparents in NZ didn't call him in Taiwan a lot..and I said they had a different mindset about phone calls!
ReplyDeleteI'm just 42, but I knew I was getting old when I was talking with a "younger" (25) person and said, "Calgon, take me away!" and they looked at me with no clue what I was talking about.
ReplyDeleteWe changed schools this year and "keyboarding" was on my middle schooler's list of classes. I kept wondering to myself, "Why do they need to learn piano as a required class?" until they mentioned something about a computer and keyboarding in the same sentence. That was my "Ohhhhh" moment!
