Whee ~ a Wheel!

Jared and I went for a spinning lesson yesterday
and brought home a ladybug ~

a Schacht Ladybug.

It's cute as a bug &
even has a little ladybug on it.

And it's RED!

We set up a little spinning space under the stairs in the living room.
For now the trunk with baskets can hold all our fleece and supplies.

I'm working on Smiley's white fleece that I washed and carded.

So we can spin away...

with company of course.

Jared is a little faster than me.  He's so good at it!  Look how even that is (above).  He's 12!  Our teacher says he has quite the gift for working with fiber.

I think it's going to be one busy Ladybug!

  1. Kim, how fun! I think it is so neat that Jared loves it, too. It is always more fun to have a buddy! I can't wait to see what yo do with all of the spun wool:).

  2. Congrats on your new spinning wheel. It is a big thing up here in Maine and New England. It is unfortunate for me that I don't know how to knit, the fibers are amazing. Way to go Jared, continue to expand that talent.

  3. What a perfect little spinning nook! I think a second wheel is in your future; I can't imagine trading back and forth on a wheel. Spindles are easier to share....

  5. Yes, there was a used Kiwi there but he didn't like it nearly as much. He bought his own spools to work with. I did have to kick him off earlier today! I am glad he is enjoying it!

  10. Nice looking wheel! I'm sure you will get a lot of use out of it. Now, you probably will need a bunch more sheep to go with it. :-}

  11. Daisy,
I did a google search of spinning wheel sales in our area and then started calling around. One lady about 45 minutes from me has a cozy little barn on her farm that she turned into a spinning/weaving shop. On her website she said she gave private lessons. Actually the 3 lessons it took to really get started all counted toward the purchase of our wheel. A great deal! You also might look for a hand spinning guild. There is one that meets once a month here. We are going on Saturday to participate in a lesson on skirting fleece. I bet it is a great way to get to know other spinners. What I have found learning all kinds of farm things is that those that love what they do usually love to teach others too!
