Farmhouse Hose Holder

I don't get along with hose reels or hose hangers of any kind.  I don't know why.  Maybe I am difficult to get along with when working outside.

They always seem to get hung up when you need to reach a few more feet.  They twist and turn the wrong direction when you try to roll them back up.  Or if it's a hose cart, it just falls over.
Tell me someone has this issue too!

However, I believe I've found my perfect hose holder.

This spring I got my galvanized buckets out to plant flowers in. While washing them out, I had an idea! {It was a Eureka moment.}

I set one aside to hold the hose.  To get the hose to embrace the idea as I had, I needed it too loosen up.  I achieved this by letting it sit in the sun for a while.  After that it was happy to cozy up in the bucket.

It's the easiest hose holder to get along with.
It looks right at home with the decor around the farm too.
I just love it.

  1. Great minds must think alike! I just did this with my hose last week!

  2. Yes, Eureka! I have kicked my hose holder before... My husband purchased a smaller bronzed bucket, but I like yours better. I can't wait to show him.

  3. I HATE hoses! I detest them. I swear at them.... using really bad words! I also dislike hose reels. We had one in SC and it took agility and stamina to wind the hose up. One had to plant a foot on the base of the stand, fight the bush it was snuggled up to, and try to reel in the hose. The hose would brush against my leg. I am cringing at the memory as I write this as I can still feel that gritty hose rub on my leg!
Your holder is certainly appropriate for your farm house. I love it!

  4. How brilliant!! I love this idea. My girls informed me that I need to be better about winding the hoses up. Perhaps this would encourage me.... I certainly like the look!

  6. Great idea! You should see our hose. It just lies sprawled out all over the garden walk all year. Such a humiliation it is. ;) This looks much better¨!

  7. Hi Kim, hoping you are having a great week. I love the look and it seems to be a more practical way to contain the hose. I'm wondering if you have holes in the bottom of the buckets to drain rainwater?

  8. Yes, there are holes in the bottom. All of the flower buckets have holes in them so this one does too.

  10. GENIUS -- I have several just *hanging* around. Those reels and rollers are not a friend of mine either :)

    Blessings!

  11. I need buckets for our hoses...we have three different faucets, all with hoses attached, swirling around all over the place...buckets would be a good corral. Thanks for the idea!

  12. I am in the process of moving from my first little farm project to my second little farm project. (closer to family). It gives me the chance to start all over and correct my first mistakes. I typed "goat shed" in yahoo and found ur site. You place is so pretty. I love it! I have been picking through for an hour. I have some questions - how are u doing ur goat and sheep fencing? Is it board fence with short cattle fence? What is the layout of your goat shed? It's very cute and looks handy.

    1. I'm not sure how many gallons it holds. I would guess 15. I did measure it though and it is 24" across and 11" deep. Hope that helps!

  16. Simple, yet excellent idea. I grew up on a farm, and we had one or two of these, so I love the idea of getting something I grew up with, now putting to good use in a hold new way. Thank you for that.
