Lamb Watch Begins

Today is the first due date for lambs.
We will have two pregnant groups this year,
one due now and the other due in June.

These four girls are really close.
Callie, Flora, Ralene, & Twinkle (from left)

We have moved them to the back pen near the sheep shed and lambing jugs.  This way we can keep watch easily.  Checking on them in the wee hours of the night has started too.
Not looking forward to sleepless nights
but can't wait for cuddly lambs!

Ralene looks so close...
She should be first.

He tends his flock like a shepherd:
He gathers the lambs in his arms
and carries them close to his heart;
he gently leads those that have young.

  1. How exciting! Looking forward to the upcoming adventure (and secretly happy that it's not me up in the middle of the night). ;0)

  2. That is so exciting! And you get to have two waiting periods: double the fun. :D We have nearly a whole year before kidding starts again with us. At least we have a bunch of kids to enjoy now. :) Do your sheep lamb pretty easily? or do you have to go in a lot? I'm not sure how it is with sheep; just goats. :) Just out of curiosity, do you milk your sheep? I know you can make sheep cheeses (yum!), but do you have to have a dairy sheep, so to speak? Hope you will have an easy lambing season. Have a blessed day! ~Lauren :)

    1. Jacob Sheep lamb mostly on their own. We did have a few last year that needed a little help. Not sure if this was our lack of experience or their condition. We watch them closely regardless. I love watching the lambs be born!

      I do plan on milking the first one that has a single lamb. I would love to try making feta cheese! In fact, I've picked out a cheese making kit from Hoegger's that will hopefully arrive soon. I don't know of any Jacob breeders that make cheese from their milk but I'm going to give it a go.

So what do you think of that?
