Field Trip on the Farm

This week we hosted our first
Field Trip
for a homeschool group.
They drove an hour and a half to get here.

Fifteen kids ages three to nine
for three hours.

They toured all the animals
and hopefully learned some new things about them,

gathered the eggs,
rode a horse,

had a picnic lunch,
played on the tractor and gator,

planted flower seeds to take home,
watched a spinning demonstration,
and made little felted wool balls.

It was a whirlwind
but oh, so, fun!
Wish I had been able to take more pictures
but I was a little busy. ;)

We feel so blessed to be able to share our farm with others because God allows us to enjoy it everyday.

The Lord has done great things for us,
and we are filled with joy.
Psalm 126:3

  1. That sounds like fun! I actually know one of the families that came to your farm! They are sweet friends of mine. Such a small world!

    1. You come too next time or just whenever you are in the area. We always love visitors!

  2. Oh I bet that was a lot of fun! And what a pretty day! Last Friday I invited families from our preschool to come out to our place and all the kids (about 15+ of them, 5 and under) had a blast checking out the goats, chickens, garden and other things. Kids need more places like ours' to play. Good for you on providing it!

I was wondering if you could tell me what you feed your Jaco's. Do you do alfalfa also? Is there a brand of feed you preffer? I am feeding Hi-Pro blue tag for sheep, that all my local store offer, there is not that many sheep in my area, Bunch of goats thought!I am giving them Hay grass, but I always wonder if I need to give them something else. my email is jegered@gmail.com

  4. We feed Purina Honors Show Sheep but we give it very sparingly. Jacobs really don't need any grain. We only give it to keep them coming to us when we call them. We up the feed a little when the pregnant ewes are a few weeks from lambing after we move them to the lambing area. We only feed alfalfa when they have just lambed and some to the lambs themselves. Some say that alfalfa makes their fiber more coarse. We also provide a protein/mineral tub year-round that has trace cooper but low enough that it is safe for sheep. Other than that, they eat Bermuda grass or Bermuda hay. Hope that helps. Funny that everyone around here has goats. People call ours goats all the time! :)

  6. As a homeschooler that is really awesome for you to open up your farm like that. We have chickens here on our city lot so we have a mini farm of sorts. Postage stamp size.
