Walking in the New Year

My first 5K.
I'm not quite sure how it happened really.
I didn't set out to do it
especially on New Year's Day
as if it was a resolution.
After all, I'm generally opposed to exercise of any kind.
But here I found myself, walking.

All three of our boys were signed up to run.
And then our oldest had an accident.
It was not funny at the time and thankfully he is fine
but he was unable to compete with a concussion.

Yes, the boy knocked himself out cold with a t-post driver
putting up temporary fence for lambing.
Can you believe it? {I'm giggling as I write this because it's just SO like him to do something like that}
We're glad he only ended up with a big bump on his head
and a few days of dizziness & headaches.

Since he was out of commission & couldn't run
it was suggested that I take his place and walk with our niece.
It was a very chilly morning
and I haven't walked that far in...say...EVER.

But to my surprise, I really enjoyed it!
I think we may start making the runs a family affair.

Ta-da... the finishers.
Notice my guys have two medals each.
That's because they were both in the top three of their age divisions.

Isaiah 40:31
But they who wait for the Lord
shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.

  1. How cool! I want to start walking again but having hip troubles that stopped me in my tracks... to much pain... blah! Hoping another good shot of cortozone in the hip will help me out.. Congrats and keep going.. Sorry about your son.... Have a great day! Blessings!

  2. Congratulations to everyone! What a great accomplishment! I love walking, maybe I should try this! Thanks for the inspiration!
    Concussions are no fun, I speak from experience. Hope he's healing well.

  3. Congratulations! I'm glad you enjoyed the experience. I hope your son gets feeling better.

  4. What an awesome experience! Congrats to all the finishers! Glad to know your oldest is ok...I am sure it will be a story to tell for years to come... *snicker*

  5. Kim - loved your post today! I'm a walker so I do know the rewarding feeling of doing a good speed walk! I did the Breast Cancer 3-day a few years ago (60 miles in 3 days) and it was the most fun experience I think I've ever had. Who knows - you may find yourself being hooked on walking! :-) ~ Dori ~

    1. 60 miles ~ wow! That's a long way for 3 days.

So what do you think of that?
