(Show) Jumping Out of the Nest

 I love having all my boys in the nest but this week,
one took a leap and not the one that I thought would go first.  It's probably not a permanent jump but it feels like it for this momma bird.

After the George Morris Clinic in the fall, Jonah (our middle son) was asked to be a working student for a professional eventer and trainer. They are going to "winter" in Ocala, Florida to compete.  While there, he will muck, groom, tack, and feed the horses in exchange for the opportunity to train.  He & Rivie will also compete in show jumping and eventing while there.

So we loaded up the horse trailer (you wouldn't believe how much stuff a boy and his horse need!) and hauled to Florida ~ straight through ~ from Texas!  18 1/2 hours later we arrived safely thanks to many prayers.

There were lots of jitters for J & R until they went on their first ride.
And then they settled right in.

It promises to be a challenging and hopefully fun experience.
Six weeks is a long time for my boy to be gone from the nest
but I'm so glad he jumped out doing something he loves.

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31

  1. Wow, Kim, that's pretty big for all concerned! Good for you for giving him wings.

  2. Love him enough to let him go and in turn he will love you enough to come home. God bless.

  3. What a terrific opportunity. So good to see he is stretching his wings in something he enjoys. Best wishes.

  4. What a great experience for him...Ocala FL is beautiful. Bless your heart Kim, letting go is tough..I have too let go 3x's. But he will be home before you know it with many stories to share. Have a wonderful weekend.

  5. I hope he enjoys this opportunity. Keep us updated on his experiences.

  6. What a wonderful opportunity! Ocala is horse country around here. I hope he enjoys the mild winter! Congrats to all concerned.

  7. Congratulations to Jonah! Spreading those wings is fun and scary at the same time...for Mom and son!

  8. Kim, what an AWESOME experience for your son. But, oh you will miss him. It's so nice we live in the day when we can text and talk so easily! Hugs to you - Dori -

  9. I can see big things ahead for him in the horse world. Would you have believed this would happen when you got your first horses?
