A Mostly Quiet Summer

The summer here on the farm has flown by.
It's been quiet ~ mostly.

The chickens have been loving the abundance
of insects and green grass that have come from our frequent
and unusual summer rains.

The bees have multiplied and swarmed,
succeeded and failed
and now two healthy hives remain ready for fall.
Hopefully we will have a honey harvest too!

Our boys are all adults now! The oldest is in medical school.
Still in Oklahoma but a few hours away.

Our middle son came home this summer from equine work
with two beautiful thoroughbreds in tow. It's nice to have him near again.

And our youngest is running through life ~ literally.
Luckily he found a way to volunteer while doing so.

Ainsley's Angels of Oklahoma

While all this has kept us busy,
we've been continuing to transition our farm life to a slower pace.

Right now we are all trying to enjoy
the summer blooms while they last ~
even the cat.

    1. It was cute the first time when I snapped the pic but he has returned time and again for naps and completely smashed the flowers. We still love the cat though!

  4. Fascinating to see where your boys are now! This summer I've been spinning the Jacob roving you sent me long ago, and enjoying it very much.

    1. You will have to let me know what you make with it. I've been trying to decide what to do with all the yarn that I have left from our former flock.. Maybe have woven blankets made for our family members.

  5. Really enjoy your story. My wife and I recently purchased an old farmhouse and have been toying with the idea of painting it red. However, we're concerned that it will end up being the wrong red. We really like the deep red on your house. Weird question, I know, but do you mind sharing the color you guys used?

    1. Hi Mike. We have been really happy with the color! It is Benjamin Moore Country Redwood., It used to be a premixed color but is not anymore. They can still mix it for you. I will say that we have had some fade in the last 10 years. We are getting ready to have the house painted again but Ben Moore has been great and is comping the paint and replacing it with the upgrade Aura. It was not available at the time but is supposed to be a far superior product. Good luck choosing the perfect color for your farmhouse! Here is a link to how we chose: http://redfarmhouse.blogspot.com/2010/11/picking-exterior-paint.html
