Buffalo Plaid Christmas Party
It's easy to decorate a red farmhouse for Christmas.
Adding little touches here and there makes it special while still keeping it simple.

For the last few year's we have hosted a teen Christmas party for our youngest son. This year's theme was buffalo plaid - lumberjack style! The red & black mixed perfectly with our home decor. And of course it's all the rage so it was easy to find fun items to add.
This adorable Lumberjack Santa (Target) presided over the festivities. Borrowed stacked log slabs were the perfect base for him. Next to him is an antique planer that belonged to a family member and some little woodland creatures. Those are hard to see in the photos but they were scattered all over the tablescape.
I mixed in plaid candles from TJ Maxx, a bear and a reindeer from JoAnn's, and a few cute signs from Hobby Lobby all a top table runners from Target Dollar Spot and I had a buffalo plaid table scape.
We served our typical ham & cheese sliders and mac & cheese bites but the mini chicken and waffles stole the show. The platters were half gone before I snapped a picture! They were so easy too. Trader Joe Orange Chicken (without the sauce) on top of mini Eggo waffles baked in the oven. Seasoned liberally with Italian seasoning and salt and drizzled with maple syrup. Hubby was sceptical of this dish but I even won him over. Trust me, it was a crowd pleaser!
The best part though was the amazing group of friends that our boy has through his Expeditions in Etiquette group. He's in the buffalo plaid tee below.
Smores by the fire wrapped up in blankets topped off the evening.
Then everyone lumbered home with a Coke bottle lumberjack.
I made these with scrap denim, washi tape in black and gold for belts, and flannel strips for the scarves. Gray wool roving made perfect beards (although batting would work well too). Little pink pom pom noses and brown hats made from a quilting square and a little hot glue. All of that and a few blisters on my fingers made perfect take home gifts.
Remnants of buffalo plaid will remain through the holidays ~
even the gifts under the tree.
Merry Christmas
from this lady and her lumberjack!
