Jar Soap Dispenser

I first saw these cute soap dispensers at Pottery Barn and wanted some.  Then I ran across a tutorial on how to make your own on Julia's adorable blog, Blissfully Content.  She has the cutest ideas!

I searched for zinc lids online and then decided maybe I should use what I had.  Truth is, I'm impatient!  So I used new jars and white plastic freezer jar lids.

I really like how they turned out.

And then my sis~in~law brought me another soap pump!
{Thanks, Scharlee!} And so I made one out of a really big old Atlas jar for my kitchen sink.

I love jars!

  1. I have been looking for some sort of dispenser for dish soap. Wow! I never thought of making my own!
Thanks for passing on the idea!

  2. I've always wanted them too and like you couldn't find the solid zinc lids, just the glass and ring kind. I'm going to have to try this.

  3. I loved seeing these! I've had mine for ages, and they're such a nice fit in a country home. Don't fret about looking for zinc lids though...they do look great, but (as I found out) after awhile they begin to corrode. Yours look terrific!

  4. Hi Kim!

Oh my goodness, your soap jars turned out so cute! I love that you used what you had on hand....they are really neat looking.

I have been a follower of your blog for some time now and just love your farm:).

    Have a great day!

  5. I think they turned out very nice and even better you used what you had.

  6. I'll have to go check that out as it is REALLY cute.

  7. I made a bunch of these for xmas presents this year, and loved them so much I made one for myself! They are a perfect fit in your classy farmhouse :)

  8. This is brilliant! I was just thinking about searching the thrift stores for a little soap dispenser for my kitchen sink, but this is WAY better! And I have lots of mason jars ;) Thanks for sharing the idea.

  9. I love this idea. I love using antique jars for storage containers in the kitchen.

  10. I love these dispensers! A friend gave me one and I've been using it to dispense lotion in our bathroom. Thanks for the link:)

  11. I love old jars and I love this! I should make one of these for my Mom for her birthday or just because and surprise her (:

Thanks for your sweet comment on my outfit post! It made me beam with joy (: Sorry I haven't stopped by your cute blog in a while :\

  12. I read the tutorial, but I was wondering how you put the hole in the plastic lid?

  13. Elizabeth,
I tapped a very small screwdriver through the center (a larger one will bust the lid) and then used small wire cutters to cut out a circle just big enough for the pump to fit through.
    It was easy!

So what do you think of that?
